"How to work a Room" - Susan Roane

Some advice on when you get invited to those dredged social gatherings, and start using it as a way to network.

AVOID NEGATIVE SELF-TALK
  1. I'm an introvert and people drain my energy
  2. I don't make friends easily
  3. I don't like parties with lots of people
  4. I don't like small talk, I don't know what to say
  5. I can easily become a recluse if I let myself
  6. I don't like kissing & hugging

USE POSITIVE SELF-TALK

  1. Making new acquaintances with a zest for life gives me energy
  2. I easily walk up to people and introduce myself
  3. I like opportunities to meet new people
  4. I like to control a conversation and allow people to express themselves
  5. I like to share experiences with other people
  6. Touch is healing

3 Steps to improving your communication skills:

Change your belief of "Don't talk to strangers"
to: "You have a common interest, that is why you are all there"

Practice self-introduction
# your name and what you have in common with others

Don't wait to be introduced
# Move from guest to host behaviour
