Laika

This posting is dedicated to a brave little dog who had no choice in her fate.

On Saturday the 3rd Nov 1957 (50 years ago) Laika was send up in the Russian space shuttle, Sputnic, to help research space travel.

The true reason for her death was only made known in 2002:
"Laika had died from shock and heat exhaustion only hours after lift-off."

Although I'm all for scientific advancement, we have to ask ourselves the question:

Doesn't killing animals for the sake of humanity make us less humane?

"Terrified by the roar and the vibration of the engines, the dog lurched desperately to free itself as the rocket took altitude, its heart racing at three times normal speed."

Rest in peace little one, you will not be forgotten!
